Teatro degli Arcimboldi

Teatro degli Arcimboldi first opened on 19 January 2002. The show was Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, directed by Riccardo Muti. Teatro alla Scala’s seasons were actually hosted at Arcimboldi until Piermarini’s renovations were completed, approximately three years later. A new chapter opened when Woody Allen & New Orleans Jazz Band took the stage. The City of Milan, the owner of Arcimboldi, became promotor of a playbill organized by Paolo Arcà with the collaboration of the five Foundations where the City of Milan is a founding member: I Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Piccolo Teatro – Teatro d’Europa. The theater inaugurated the next chapter with a show on the modern use of technology and multimedia: True Fictions: New adventures in folklore by Light Surgeons, an exploration of Truth and Myth in New York after September 11th, made with a documentary technique, music, animation and moving graphics with the use of the latest editing systems and digital production. Since then, Teatro degli Arcimboldi has been confirmed as the leading Italian stage according to the most eminent personalities on the international panorama. It has become the most important stage in Lombardy for contemporary dance, filling a void in Milan’s offerings. The new form of circus theater, including the Canadian group Cirque Eloize and the Australian group Circus Oz, have also come to Arcimboldi, as well as Studio Azzurro’s visual experimentations. High quality entertainment always has a place at the theater, with jazz, international and electronic music, as well as symphonic concerts.
