Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci

The National Museum of Science and Technology 'Leonardo da Vinci' was founded on 15 February 1953. Employees and collaborators of the Museum think up, elaborate and realise the daily activities and large-scale projects themselves. These internal resources are joined by institutions, companies, professionals, scholars and researchers, and volunteers who complete the network with which the Museum realises its mission.

The Museum is managed by the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology Foundation, established by Legislative Decree No. 258 of 20 July 1999.
Inaugurated in Milan on 15 February 1953 and becoming a foundation under private law in 1999, today the Museum is one of the leading technical-scientific museums in Europe.

Its mission is divided into the following functions at the service of the community

  • to promote, disseminate and make accessible technical-scientific culture in all its manifestations, implications and interactions with other fields of knowledge and society
  • to act as a laboratory for encounter, dialogue, comparison and collaboration between the world of research, production with citizens, institutions, schools and other museums on technical-scientific topics of common interest
  • to carry out research, acquire, conserve, make accessible, interpret and communicate the material and immaterial evidence of science, technology and industry with reference to the past and to contemporaneity, in a perspective of constant updating of the museum heritage understood as a set of collections, archives and library
  • to carry out research and develop methodologies, educational tools for the involvement of different audiences, in particular the new generations, in learning experiences and educational paths on the themes of science, technology and their role in society and daily life
  • to study, investigate, interpret and communicate to the world the work of Leonardo da Vinci the engineer in the historical and social context of the time, his relations with nature and art, the legacy of his research method also in contemporary society.
