Direct Loan - Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy Masters Division Programs

SDA Bocconi School of Management - Masters Division Programs

The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions of higher education to establish minimum standards of satisfactory academic progress for student receiving federal aid. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)  means the student is proceeding in a positive manner toward fulfilling degree requirements. SAP includes two standards; qualitative and quantitative.

Student must meet both standards to continue receiving financial aid.

Qualitative

In order to maintain eligibility for financial aid with the qualitative standard, a student must maintain the academic standing necessary to remain at SDA Bocconi School of Management.  At the end of each term The Financial Aid Office will be informed by the Program Director and the Program’s Secretarial Office regarding the academic students successful progress according to the Program’s standards .

In order to remain enrolled in the Program or to continue receiving financial aid, a student must prove to have acquired the knowledge, skills and attitude required for a responsible and effective career in management. The evaluation system aims to take into account:

  • a blend of personal qualities, i.e. motivation, responsibility, reliability, problem solving ability to solve managerial problems and to work in a team;
  • attendance to class activities during the whole Program;
  • performance in the Program, as referred in “Academic requirements” Section  of the Program’s Rules.

Students may be dismissed by their Program if they have not made sufficient academic progress to warrant continuance of study. Participants’ behavior must comply with the rules of the Program and with the School’s ethical standards. Should the violation of the rules or of the ethical standards be considered severe, the School reserves the right to dismiss the violator from the Program.

Whatever the abovementioned reasons, Dismissal decision by the Program Director and Faculty Council is final and may not be appealed by student.

A student must maintain these standards regardless of their eligibility for or participation in the Title IV program. Termination of students will follow policies and procedures adopted by the Program and reported to the Faculty Council.

Quantitative

Attendance:

Regular daily class attendance is required. In order to meet the quantitative standards on the attendance,  participants must complete at least 80% of the sessions scheduled.

Attendance at Program’s activities is controlled on a daily basis. Any repeated absence is reported to the Class Coordinator and authorized in advance by the Director.

The maximum allowable time to be eligible for financial aid for the Program is one academic year. The normal timeframe for completion of the program is one year.

Performance:

SDA Bocconi School of Management evaluates Satisfactory Academic progress. Both the Director and the Faculty Council constantly evaluate the participants’ performance throughout the Program. Participants must complete all required courses by the end of the degree.

Grades are assigned according to the scale referred in “Academic requirements” Section of the Rules.

Participants who fail a required course cannot repeat the course but can repeat the exam. The School schedules only one make-up exam to the benefit of students who either did not pass or were not present at the regular exam.  Exam attendance is compulsory.  During the exams any violation of the behavioral rules at “Behavioral Rules and Exams” Section of the Program’s Rules is sanctioned with early termination of the exam and an insufficient grade. The most relevant violations are reported to the Director and may be cause for dismissal from the Program.

Should both the regular and the make-up exams be missed or failed, whatever the reason, an insufficient grade for the course is recorded.

In particular, to earn the Program degree a student should match the evaluation as referred in “Academic requirements” Section of the Program’s Rules. Students violating this limit cannot proceed in the Program and will be dismissed.

Whatever the abovementioned reasons, Dismissal decision by the Program Director and Faculty Council is final and may not be appealed by student.
