Summer institute in computational social science (SICSS)
The University of Oxford invites applications for its summer institute in computational social science (SICSS). This supports postgraduate students and early-career researchers in participating in two weeks of virtual workshops, seminars and group-based research projects focused on computational social science, between 14 and 25 June 2021. The first week will comprise workshops on topics such as text as data, web scraping, digital field experiments, machine learning and agent-based modelling, group exercises, discussion and reflection groups, and research talks. The second week will focus on group-based, participant-led research projects.
PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty within seven years of obtaining their PhD may apply. Exceptional master’s students on a research-track degree, and those transitioning to a PhD programme are also eligible. Applicants from all backgrounds and all fields of study are welcomed, particularly those from groups currently underrepresented in computational social science.A total of 25 places are available. Funding is available to build the foundations of teams and ideas which can produce publishable work, with input from the conveners.
