Your Student ID Card is an essential tool to identify yourself in the University, access the buildings on campus, sit exams and use IT rooms, the cafeteria, Library and printing services. It can also be activated for banking operations.

Please be aware that your student ID card is also a refillable debit card created through a collaboration between Banca Popolare di Sondrio and Bocconi University and it allows users to make payments or withdrawals in Italy and abroad, as well as place payments for purchases on the internet. Though not connected to a checking account, the card has an IBAN code which allows wire transfers to be completed and received.

Information on how and when to retreive your Student ID Card will be published in your yoU@B.

Italian Tax Code

Italian Tax Code - Codice Fiscale (service for regular students)

The Italian tax code ("codice fiscale") is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters issued for free by the Revenue Agency to identify Italian citizens and foreign citizens.

The Revenue Agency is a non-economic public body that is mainly responsible for collecting tax revenues, providing services and assistance to taxpayers.

You need to have your own "codice fiscale" to:

  • open a bank account
  • register at the National Healthcare Service (SSN) - apply for the healthcard
  • sign a rental contract
  • sign other type of contracts ( phone line etc)

We inform you that non-resident individuals who need to obtain the tax identification number can apply for it to the Italian consular authorities in the Country of residence.
In addition to this procedure and thanks to an agreement between the Agency and Bocconi if you are an international BSc or MSc student and you do not have an Italian tax code, you can request a “Codice Fiscale” online.  Around th middle of July, instructions on how to request you fiscal code will be emailed to all regularly enrolled BSc and MSc students (please check the e-mail you used when applying to Bocconi through MyApplication).

N.B.: The tax code you find in the ISEU certificate or the one you can see in the portal during the admission process is not the official one but is automatically generated. To obtain the official one, you have to request it from the Italian Revenue Agency.

Money/Bank

Before leaving for Milan, check with your home bank if they have a branch in Italy or any special agreements with an Italian bank.

If you would like to open a bank account in Italy, you will need to submit the following documents at the bank of your choice:

  • Codice Fiscale, Italian Tax Code
  • Valid form of identification (official ID / passport);
  • Certificate of enrollment at the University (can be printed at a Punto Blu kiosk on campus);
  • Non-EU Students are also required to show their permesso di soggiorno, permit of stay OR receipt.

Health

All international students are required to have appropriate insurance. In Italy, the National Health Care System is provided by a public health care service (SSN). To know more, read here.

Additional information are also available through the YESMilano webpage.
