Conduct and Sanctions

Anyone entering the Bocconi community should be aware of the importance of the conduct he or she assumes within the organization. Positive conduct, which can reinforce a spirit of group, a sense of belonging and shared values, contributes to the University's growth. Negative conduct harms not only the individual or people involved, but also the entire Bocconi community.

 Università Bocconi student and faculty conduct are inspired in particular by the criteria of:

  • integrity, respect of principles and rules of ethics in university activities,
  • individual responsibility;
  • morality, dignity, decorum, reciprocal respect in the area of respective
  • functions and roles;
  • integration of the society and the related community, respecting dignity and individual personalities and reciprocal cultural differences;
  • meritocracy, transparency, equality in treatment, spirit of collaboration,
  • equality and solidarity.

Conduct and sanctions organized in the Honor Code and in the Bocconi University rules and regulations concern mainly ethical conduct in the area of educational and research activities. Other ethically incorrect or illegal conduct (e.g. damage, threats, private violence, identity theft, harassment, etc.) not only make up part of the Honor Code, but also should be reported and prosecuted through legal measures.

Forms of conduct that can be sanctioned according to the Honor Code are, for instance:

  • Hindering teaching, study, research or administration at the University, thereby prejudicing the proper undertaking of those activities, by, for example, breaching the University's regulations on such activities, formally adopted by the University, faculty and non-teaching staff for the undertaking of such activities and duly communicated to the interested parties.
  • Breaching the regulations on the proper carrying out of evaluations and assessments of any kind, including admission tests, recruitment processes, competitions, exams, exercises, reports, presentations, papers, theses, teaching or research evaluations and so on.
  • Producing, disseminating or using inaccurate documents, formal statements or sources.
  • Causing detriment or danger of detriment to the physical or moral safety of other persons.
  • Causing detriment or danger of detriment to objects and rights, including intellectual, the rights of others, or own property rights.
  • Other conduct contrary to the principles and regulations of this code, when such conduct could give rise to detriment or danger of detriment to the proper carrying out of University activities.
