PhD IN INTERNATIONAL LAW AND ECONOMICS
Starting with 2014-15, the PhD in International Law and Economics and the PhD in Law of Business and Commerce are no longer offered as independent Ph.D. programs, as they are merged in the new PhD program in Legal Studies.
The PhD in International Law and Economics began in 1990 and has been part of the Bocconi PhD School since 2006. This unique PhD program is particularly interdisciplinary in nature and has connections with Universities abroad, specialized research centers and International Organizations.
The subjects offered are therefore International Economics, International Trade Law and Comparative Public Economic Law as well as the principles and functioning of the main economic organizations (OMC/WTO, IMF, World Bank, OECD, regional organizations). Compulsory courses include International Trade Law, Public International Law, Comparative Public Law, International Business Law, International Taxation, European Union Law, Comparative Economic Analysis of Law and International Protection of Intellectual Property, International Economics, EU Competition Law and Policy, International Investment Law, Economics of European Integration, Market and Environmental Regulation, Economics of International Development. This PhD program is aimed at recent graduates who intend to expand their knowledge and abilities in the subject matters covered by the program, in order to pursue a career in academia or at research institutions and international organizations.
The program lasts 3 years and is organized in courses and specialized seminars, in working groups and seminar series in Italy and abroad.
In particular, during the first year, students have to take courses and. During the second year doctoral students are invited to travel abroad and carry out research in Universities and Research Centers. Participation to relevant conferences, courses and seminars at other qualified Institutions is encouraged. The third year is dedicated to the thesis work.
Prof. Giorgio Sacerdoti was the coordinator of the program since 2008, followed by Prof. Claudio Dordi.
The Faculty of the PhD is made up of professors who teach the subjects of the program, together with Visiting Professors from all over the world.
Every PhD student is guided by a Tutor chosen from the Faculty Board.
Doctorate students are prepared for a career in Universities (in Italy and abroad), International Organizations, research centers, public administrations, multinational organizations, as well as in consultancy and professional law firms.
