New ECDL Full Standard
The New ECDL Full Standard certification consists of 7 topics which are split into the following modules:
- Computer Essentials
- Online Essentials
- Word Processing
- IT Security
- Online Collaboration
Students need to pass an exam for each of the seven modules, which they can take in any order. The program is based on the Syllabus available here.
In January 2019 the Syllabus for Word processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation modules will be updated from version 5.0 to 6.0. Both versions of the Syllabus are valid for obtaining the certification, therefore no integrative exams are required for those who have already passed these modules with the Syllabus 5.0. Further information on Syllabus 6.0 is available here.
The New ECDL Full Standard certification (or standard equivalent) is valid to fulfill the mandatory prerequisite in order to register for the exams in Computer science (30424), Informatica per giurisprudenza (50019/6034), Computer skills (30330) and Computer skills for economics (30068/6033).
Università Bocconi is an official Test Center for the supply of ECDL certifications.
Follow the steps below to apply for the exams and obtain your certification.
1. Purchase a Skills Card and the exams
In order to take exams for the New ECDL, you need to purchase a New ECDL Skills Card and the seven modules. The Skills Card is a virtual card on which ECDL exams are registered as they are passed. The New ECDL Skills Card does not have an expiration date.
You can purchase the Skills Card and the exams only by using the online payment form present in your you@B diary (or, for external users, available here). Università Bocconi offers a special price for its students: 60 euros for the New ECDL Skills Card and 18 euros per exam. For external users the prices are: 85 euros for the Skills Card and 26 euros per exam.
2 . Register for exams
After completing the payment, Bocconi students will be able to register for exams autonomously through their yoU@B diary, by clicking on the link "Register for New ECDL exams" in the "IT Certifications" box.
Upon first access, students must fill in the details of their Skills Card (7-digit number) which is provided by Sedin via e-mail to the address registered during the payment procedure.
To proceed with registration, click on the "Add" button. Next, select the exams you'd like to register for, with a maximum of four per session.
Click on the "Next" button and the program will display available dates in the following four weeks, depending on the number of exams selected.
You will be free to choose the day and time for taking the exams, as long as places are available. If the program does not allow to select a specific round, it means that places are no longer available in that shift and that you need to opt for another date.
It is possible to modify an existing registration (change exams/sit more or less exams) at a later date. If the number of exams remains unchanged, students can modify the exam selection, otherwise they must cancel the existing registration and repeat the procedure to choose a new available date.
You can also unregister from one shift of examinations for which you have already registered. In that case, the paid exams will become available again in the YoU@B diary for later registrations.
You can register for, change, and cancel a round of examinations only until 23:59 on the Thursday of the week preceding the date of the exam.
External users or Bocconi staff must complete the registration by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, indicating the chosen exams and dates, by the midnight of the Thursday preceding the scheduled date. You will receive a confirmation with the exact time and classroom of the exam on the Friday before the date of the exam.
Please note that Bocconi students have priority over external users.
3. Prepare for ECDL exams
An online multimedia course is provided by Università Bocconi to get prepared for the New ECDL Full Standard certification. The course is available for all Bocconi students on Blackboard (both in English and Italian) without any time limits or restrictions. An update of the multimedia course to Syllabus 6.0 for Word processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation modules is available from December 12, 2018.
4. Take exams
The exams are administered via the AICE system.
The versions available at the Bocconi test center referring to every single exam are:
|Computer Essentials||Windows 7|
|Online Essentials||Firefox / Thunderbird 15.0.1 - IE10/Gmail - Google Chrome and Gmail|
|Word Processing||Word 2016|
|Presentation||Power Point 2016|
|Online Collaboration||Google Suite|
Each exam consists of 36 questions that must be answered in a maximum time of 45 minutes. To pass each exam the candidate must answer correctly at least 75% of the questions.
All ECDL exams, unless otherwise noted, take place in room 304, via Gobbi 5, third floor. Candidates must show up 15 minutes before the scheduled session. In case of delay, the examiner is authorized to exclude candidates from the examination session.
It is mandatory to bring the university ID card or a valid identification document (identity card, driving license or passport) to the exam. Candidates without proper ID will not be allowed to take the exam.
If candidates do not pass the exam for a given module, or do not show up, they must purchase an additional exam, then register again, from the following day. However, if candidates unregister in time, there will be no penalties and the purchased exams will be available for subsequent registration.
Upcoming exam dates are:

5. Record the prerequisite for curricular exams
After passing all seven modules, students meet the prerequisite for the Computer science (30424), Informatica per giurisprudenza (50019/6034), Computer skills for economics (30068/6033) and Computer skills (30330) exams.
In case students do not complete the ECDL certification within the scheduled dates, they will not be allowed to register for the curricular exams (second partial or the general exam).
For further information about the prerequisite, please visit the Prerequisite for curricular exams page.
6. Receive the ECDL certificate
As all the exams are passed, SEDIN will send the New ECDL certificate in .pdf format to your Bocconi email address, or, in case of external users, to the email address registered in the PAYTOOL system.
The certificate will be sent approximately in a month. There is no need to print the ECDL certificate to take curricular exams.
