BOCCONI GRADUATE MERIT AWARDS

A.Y. 2010 2011


Università Bocconi has a strong commitment to providing scholarships for outstanding students admitted to its academic programs. Scholarships offered by Bocconi and sponsor companies and institutions provide a valuable structure of financial support to ensure that excellent students from all backgrounds can enjoy the benefits of a superior academic experience.

 THE AWARDS

Recipients of the Graduate Merit Awards may be offered:

  • Tuition waiver, valued at approximately € 10,000.00 per year;
  • Accommodation at Bocconi Arcobaleno's residence or an annual scholarship of € 3,500.00 (gross).

The Award Committee may offer students partial Merit Awards. The overall number of available scholarship is up 70.

 ELIGIBILITY

Eligible students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be admitted to the first year of a Bocconi Master of Science Program in the a.y. 2010-11, as indicated on the website www.unibocconi.eu/graduateadmission;
  • Demonstrate superior academic abilities and display high academic motivation.
  • Have a GMAT of 680 (total score) or higher or a GRE of 770 or higher (in the quantitative section only). However, full Merit Awards (including both tuition waiver and housing/scholarship) will only be awarded to candidates with a GMAT of 700 (total score) or higher or a GRE of 790 or higher (in the quantitative section only).

 HOW TO APPLY

1. Applicants should complete the online form, which can be found in the FinAid applications section (link available on the right of this page);

2. Applicants should send the following documents, by the set deadlines, to the following address:

  • Print-out of the email that applicants receive when they applied for the benefit along with the summarizing form attached to that email;
  • Scholarship motivation letter in English (max 550 words) - Your scholarship motivation letter must be different from the one submitted for your application for Graduate programs. The scholarship motivation letter should contain the reasons why you should be awarded a Bocconi Graduate Merit Award.;
  • A copy of official GMAT/GRE score (students that applied for DES, ESS and EMIT courses, as first or second choice, can send the GRE score as an alternative);
  • A copy of a curriculum vitae in English;
  • Certification related to any traineeship, employment, international exchange and study abroad programs carried out during the Bachelor studies.

The deadline for application will be the same which applies to applications for admission.
Students are strongly suggested to apply in the same session they submit their application for the admission; nevertheless, applications will be accepted in one of the following sessions for the admission to the a.y. 2010/11.

 SELECTION PROCESS

The selection will be exclusively based on the evaluation of academic merit, GMAT or GRE score, above-mentioned certifications and personal motivation.

Selection will be carried out by a Committee, nominated by the Rector, including the Dean of the Graduate School and the Dean for International Affairs, whose decision is final. There is no appeal process in the event that an award is not made or is partially made.

Applicants will be informed about whether or not they have been successful in gaining an award (and its value) once the Graduate Programs selection results are released.

 CONDITIONS ATTACHED TO GRADUATE MERIT AWARDS

1. Students admitted to a Graduate Program and offered a Graduate Merit Award will be required to enrol in accordance with deadlines and regulations specified at www.unibocconi.eu/graduateadmission. They must complete the online enrolment procedure and make a down payment on the 1st installment of tuition and fees (2,000.00 which will be refunded).

2. Students offered a Graduate Merit Award are eligible to receive a tuition waiver, accommodation or scholarship, once they have formally accepted the award, within the prescribed period of time.

3. Beneficiaries of the cash amount will receive the award at the beginning of the second semester (February 2011). For the second year, the payment schedule will be announced upon scholarship reconfirmation (as specified below).

4. Beneficiaries may be required to participate in activities organized by the University, such as presentations, workshops or activities for prospective students, for not more than 4 days per year. Participation in these activities (if required by the University) is compulsory to obtain the benefits of the award program.

5. Beneficiaries of the Graduate Merit Awards may not be recipients of other Bocconi scholarships.
Students who turn down the accommodation offered within the Merit Awards program are not eligible for Housing Services at reduced rates offered by ISU Bocconi.

6. The award is available to graduate students for a maximum of two years.

7. Fiscal terms and conditions (DPR 917/86-Italian tax law) will be applied to the scholarship.

8. The award will be confirmed for the second year to the students who have continued to achieve outstanding academic performance during the first year of their program.
In order to confirm the scholarship students must gain at least 50 credits by 10 August 2011 with an average minimum grade of 28/30. The average grade is calculated as the average of all first year exams grades eliminating the lowest grade from the recipient's academic record (this is approximately equivalent to being ranked, in terms of grades performance, within the top 10% of the MSc students).

9. Beneficiaries must communicate to the Student Services Office by 15 July 2011 if they would like to change the benefit (annual scholarship or accommodation) they chose in the first year.Otherwise the same benefit will automatically be applied.

Beneficiaries who choose accommodation at Bocconi Arcobaleno's residence for the second year of the program will be required to pay the amount due for accommodation (at the rate set for the a.y. 2011-2012) starting from September 2011, if the award is not confirmed according to point 8.

 EXCLUSION FROM THE MERIT AWARD

Beneficiaries who withdraw after enrolment are subject to the following:

  • If withdrawal occurs by 20 May 2010 he/she loses eligibility for the Merit Award, and within (and no later than) 60 days he/she can forward a request for reimbursement of the advance payment of the first instalment of tuition and fees;
  • If withdrawal occurs after 20 May 2010 he/she loses eligibility for the Merit Award and will not be entitled to the reimbursement of the advance payment of the first instalment of tuition and fees.

Students will automatically lose eligibility for the Merit Award if they:

1. do not finalize the enrollment procedure;
2. decide to withdraw from studies during the academic year;
3. transfer to another university;

Disciplinary sanctions, including warnings, imposed by Bocconi University may result in a revocation of all benefits. Students who lose eligibility will have to settle their financial position with reference to tuition and fees. In addition, they shall also return the amounts received.
