Prof. Gianmarco Ottaviano
Starting in 2010 the PhD School will offer a PhD program in Economics and Finance. This new program will combine the PhD in Economics and the PhD in Finance.
The PhD in Economics and Finance at Università Bocconi is a 4-year full-time program designed for highly qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire world-class research skills. The program is multidisciplinary in nature and students have the option to choose from a wide range of electives. Dedicated mentorship and support is offered them throughout their time at Bocconi. Our first-year students acquire a broad set of theoretical and methodological skills (mathematics, statistics, econometrics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, asset pricing and corporate finance) relevant to various fields in economics and finance. In the second year, students choose their field of specialization (e.g. development economics, econometrics, microeconomic theory, industrial dynamics, international economics, macroeconomics, political economics, public economics, economic history, accounting, banking, corporate finance or empirical finance). The third and fourth years are entirely dedicated to research, including attendance at regular seminars held by internationally renowned internal and external faculty.
All admitted students will be fully funded with a monthly salary. They are expected to shape their research agenda through interaction with the Faculty and their advisors. They will also acquire teaching expertise in their chosen fields. Our PhD classes are enriched by the interaction among students from all over the world, with backgrounds not only in economics and finance, but also other disciplines such as engineering and statistics. International exchanges are promoted within the framework of the European Doctoral Group in Economics.
Faculty members are highly prolific in terms of international publications and also active members of the international community. They publish in or serve on the editorial boards of leading research journals, such as American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Finance, Journal of Political Economy, Mathematical Finance, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, and many others. The faculty of compulsory courses includes Sasson Bar-Yosef, Pierpaolo Battigalli, Maristella Botticini, Carlo Favero, Sandra Fortini, Filippo Ippolito, Fabio Maccheroni, Aldo Montesano, Massimo Marinacci, Tommaso Monacelli, Fulvio Ortu, Michele Pellizzari, Roberto Perotti, Antonella Trigari.
