Since 1957, IEFE has devoted its resources to energy economics and policy, also focusing on technology issues. Over the years, the Center has enlarged its research scope to include environmental issues, particularly in conjunction with energy production.
This increase in attention toward environmental economics undoubtedly stems from the mounting awareness, starting from the 1970s, about the environmental effects of nuclear energy, and more in general about the impact of economic activities on natural and urban environments.
The Center has constantly benefited from the collaboration of researchers coming from departments of engineering and other departments of economics, thus underscoring the cross-disciplinarity of its research efforts.
