Who can access the Bocconi wireless network?
Access to Bocconi's wireless network is available to the University's instructors, students and non-teaching staff.

What is needed to utilize the Bocconi wireless network?
To access the Bocconi wireless network, the following is necessary:

  • a network account
  • a personal computer with a wireless card compatible with the 802.11a/b/g wireless network standards. A list of compatible cards can be found at this link.
  • The following operating systems are supported: Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.x

How do I know if my laptop has a wireless network card?
Follow these steps:

  • Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections
  • Make sure the Wireless Network Connection icon is present

I already registered my laptop to access the university network through the wired network. Can I access the wireless network using the same computer?
Yes, but you will also need to register the wireless card's MacAddress, as the physical address of a computer's wireless card is different from its LAN network card.

What should I do to register my wireless card?
In order to register the wireless card, please connect to YoU@B Diary, select "MY PROFILE" box and then "WIFI ACCESS REQUEST" item.
For assistance, go to the Piazza Sraffa 13 building (Velodromo), 3rd floor, staircase C, Wednesday, 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Where can I access the wireless network on campus?
The covered areas right now are:

  • Via Sarfatti 25: pt. 1st fl. 2nd fl. 3rd fl. 4th fl. lato aule nuove (west wing of the building)
  • Via Sarfatti 25: lobby
  • Piazza Sraffa 13 (Velodromo) complete coverage
  • Via Röntgen 1 building complete coverage

How fast is the connection?
The Bocconi wireless network is compatible with the 802.11a/b/g standards. The nominal speed can vary from 11 Mbps to 54 Mbps shared, while the average real speed can vary from 500 Kbps (20 people per AP with cards b e g) to 26 Mbps.

What kinds of security measures have been adopted?
Wireless network access information (username and password) travel securely via Ethernet (HTTPS protocol). The connection does not utilize data encryption. Only authenticated users can access the network and all connections are recorded.
