The International Student Desk (ISD) organizes Italian language courses each semester for exchange students to help familiarize themselves with the Italian language.
The following courses will be offered to exchange students for the 2012-2013 academic year:
The Italian Crash course and the Follow-Up courses are optional, extra-curricular courses, and therefore will not be included in a student's study plan or official transcripts and credits will not be awarded.

*CEMS students taking part in the Block Seminars may not be able to attend the Fall language courses due to schedule conflicts.
How to sign-up/apply
Students interested in signing-up for the Italian language courses will have to opportunity to register for the course while filling out their online application for the exchange program. Students who register for the Italian language course will need to take an online placement test which will determine their appropriate course level. Students will have a limited time to complete the test, at the end of which, they will not be able to access again. Students will also be required to pre-pay an enrollment fee online by credit card.
Students can choose between the following two options:
1. Italian Crash Course ONLY (40 hours of lesson)
OR
2. Italian Crash Course + Follow-Up Course (40 + 30 hours of lesson). This option
is only open to students who enroll in and attend the beginner or elementary Italian Crash
Course.
Please note: it will not be possible to register for only the Follow-Up course without having also registered the Crash Course.
Italian Language Certificates
The following links may be useful for those students interested in Italian Language Certificates. The following accredited institutions (universities and language schools) offer preparatory courses for Italian Language Certificates (e.g. CILS, CELI):
Italian Language Crash Course
Levels: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced
Registration Fee: 160 EUROS (text book not included)
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Students who attend a minimum of 75% of the 40 hours of lessons and pass the final test will receive the Italian Language Course Participation Certificate. The certificate of attendance will also include an overall evaluation: pass, fair, good or excellent.
Late arrivals or early departures will be counted towards the total number of absences.
Students arriving later than 3 lessons after the beginning of classes will no longer be admitted to participate in the course.
Italian Language Follow-up Course
The Follow-Up course provides the opportunity for students who attend the Italian Language Crash Course to continue improving their Italian throughout the semester. Please note that it is not possible to register for the Follow-Up course on its own.Workload: 30 hours throughout the semester (2 hour classes twice a week will be held in the late afternoon to avoid conflict with academic lectures)
Levels: Elementary and Intermediate ONLY (beginner and advanced courses will not be offered)
Enrollment Requirements: This course is ONLY open to exchange student who register for, attend and pass the Beginner or Elementary level Italian Crash Course to Follow-Up at the elementary or intermediate level. A minimum of 20 participants per class is needed in order to activate a Follow-Up course.
Registration Fee: 130 EUROS (text book not included)
The registration fee will be refunded in full in the event the Follow-Up course is cancelled by the ISD or if the student does not pass the final Crash Course test. Students who do not reach the 75% attendance minimum of the Italian Crash Course will not be refunded for the Follow-Up course.
