The Bocconi's PhD programme in Economics and Finance is committed to training intellectual and innovative scholars who will contribute to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the two fields and at their interface.
Our emphasis is on rigorous training and impactful research. Bocconi's faculty are prominent scholars in the fields of accounting, asset pricing, banking, corporate finance, development economics, econometrics, economic history, microeconomic theory, industrial dynamics, international economics, macroeconomics, political economics and public economics. The curriculum of the four-year programme will emphasize rigorous core training in the first two-years (with a common set of main core courses taught in the first year and fields courses in the second year) and flexible and personalized research activity in the second two years (with participation to reading groups, joint brown-bag seminars with the faculty and direct interaction with the advisor). The choice of specialization is made by the student with the second year field courses. Exchanges with international institutions are encouraged and facilitated after the completion of the course work and the clear definition of the topic for the job market paper and the thesis. Bocconi places great emphasis on the international placement of our candidates through the job market of the American Allied Social Sciences Association.
